Workshop Overview
The Co-Pilot and Enthusiasts' Course is designed for partners and friends of pilots. It would be great also for anyone interested in aviation and who wants to sample what flight training is like. The goal is for participants to have some exposure to the basics of aviation. You'll get an introduction to everything from parts of the airplane, how the controls work, radio basics, meteorology and navigation. Imagine being able to identify the types of clouds you see and be able to predict the weather yourself. You'll also participate in two flights with an instructor: one to the Ottawa practice area for basic handling lessons, and a second mini-navigation flight to Arnprior and back. Cool right?
Testimonials from previous participants
“Having recently completed the RFC co-pilot course, I highly recommend this course. While my initial goal was to feel more comfortable flying in a small aircraft, I walked away with much more! Learning the basics of aviation, including pre-flight checks, parts of the aircraft, radio communication and flight planning, has given me the confidence and excitement to fly with my partner who recently became a pilot! The flight instructors were very knowledgeable and excited to share their love of aviation!”

"I decided to attend this course since I had long been interested in flight in general, including that of birds as well as paragliding, commercial flight and private planes. I am glad to report that I enjoyed both the classroom courses on the science of flight, aircraft components and their contributions, navigation and radio communication. The instructors were knowledgeable and fun to learn from. We had good discussions with the instructors and my fellow class members. The two actual flights were done well, explaining all the safety checks and allowing the students, such as myself some time, controlling the aircraft, navigating and communicating with the control tower and the flight school by radio. I highly recommend this course."

Flights
There will be two flights, scheduled in the September to November timeframe. Flights will likely be scheduled on weekdays, since RFC weekends are quite busy. When there is enough light, flights can be booked as late as 6 pm, so this could be helpful to people who work during the day. We can generally book flights that work with your schedule!
